BCCI initiates process to find successors for Shastri, other support staff

Rahul Dravid will graduate from the NCA director to the head coach of the Indian national cricket team.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has initiated the process to find successors of Chief Coach Ravi Shastri and his associates for the senior national cricket team. The term of Shastri, India’s bowling, batting and fielding coaches will be over with the ICC T20 World Cup 2020, which goat underway with the preliminary round matches in Oman today.

The BCCI has invited applications for the positions of head coach, batting coach, bowling coach, fielding coach for the senior men’s national team.

The board has also initiated the process to hire the head sports science/medicine for the national cricket academy.

Shastri has confirmed that he will not seek another term with the national team. The NCA Director and former India captain Rahul Dravid has reportedly agreed to replace Shastri. Although, Virat Kohli in the pre-World Cup media address has stated that he was not aware about what was happening.

Dravid being the first choice to tack charge from Shastri, the selection process for the chief coach will just be a formality.

The BCCI on Sunday has invited applications for the below-mentioned positions:

  1. Head Coach (Team India – Senior Men)
  2. Batting Coach (Team India – Senior Men
  3. Bowling Coach (Team India – Senior Men)
  4. Fielding Coach (Team India – Senior Men)
  5. Head Sports Science/Medicine with National Cricket Academy (NCA)

Applications for the position of Head Coach (Team India -Senior Men) should be submitted by 5 PM on October 26, 2021 at headcoach@bcci.tv

The selected candidate will be responsible to coach India’s senior national men’s team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a world class Indian cricket team which delivers sustained success in all conditions and formats, inspiring current and future generations of cricketers and stakeholders with their approach to the game, the BCCI has stated.

The Head Coach will have overall responsibility for the performance and management of the India Men’s team in all three forms of the game.

The Head Coach will lead a team of specialist coaches and support staff and will be responsible for defining their roles, their performance and ongoing development.

The Head Coach will be responsible for reviewing, maintaining, and enforcing the disciplinary codes within the India Men’s team. The Head Coach will work with the Head of National Cricket Academy to formulate a developmental plan for the upskilling players who are not a part of the national team as and when possible.

The Head Coach in conjunction with Head Cricket NCA will formulate a policy for development of players, which is to be communicated to all first-class teams, so that the first class coaches are aware of the parameters required to succeed at the international level.

The Chief Coach will have to  observe players in elite competitions with the National Selectors and provide strategic inputs with respect to selection wherever required, provide support and advice in the development of a cricket pathway and oversee the workload management plans and set KPIs for respective support staff verticals.
