Covid-19: Sri Lankan Cricketers to bat for fight against novel coronavirus

Sri Lanka Cricket will be joining the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The cricket governing body from the Emerald Island has announced a fund-raiser.

Sri Lanka Greats XI and Team Sri Lanka will play the charity T20 match on May 4 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium to raise funds to fight the on-going Covid-19 crisis in the country.

The funds raised from rights fees of the game will be directed to help Sri Lanka’s response towards fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, stated a Press release.  Sports News App – Dafa News will be the title sponsor for the game.

Sri Lanka Greats XI will be led by Sanath Jayasuriya while Hashan Tilakaratne is the coach-cum-player of the team. The Greats XI also includes many stars from the 1996 Cricket World Cup-winning team. Dasun Shanaka is the captain of Team Sri Lanka, comprising players from the current national side, emerging and development squads of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

Arvinda de Silva, Farveez Maharoof, Upul Chandana, Upul Tharanga, Nuwan Kulasekera and Chamara Silva will feature in Sri Lanka Greats XI.

Kusal Perera, Thisara Perera, Isuru Udana and Avishka Fernando are among the major names in the in Team Sri Lanka.
