Indian cricket team has got a crucial injury scare ahead of the five-Test series in England. Opener Subhman Gill may be compelled to miss the crucial series against the hosts.
Gill was reportedly carrying an injury, which has aggravated during the ICC World Test Championship final at the Rose Bowl, Southampton, which India lost to New Zealand by eight wickets.
Gill has reportedly injured calf or hamstring. Though it was not clear whether the young batsman will require a surgery, but there is no certainty about his availability for the Test series.
The BCCI might also ask Gill to fly home for treatment and rehabilitation. The medical staff has reportedly advised Gill to be sent home since he cannot recover in time for the five-Test series.
“There is a chance that Shubman could be ruled out of the whole Test tour even though it is still a month away. The injury is serious is what we have come to know,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Team India, on a short vacation after the ICC World Test Championship final, will begin the Test series against England from August 4 at Nottingham.
The Indian squad will reassemble in Durham on July 14 to prepare for the five-Test series.
The Indian contingent includes two other openers – Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul. I will be interesting to see whether another replacement be sought if Gill had to return home.
